You know how everyone hates listening to the sound of their own voices? There's a scientific reason for that; something to do with bones in your ear. But I can tell you that if you filter the Assistant/voice entries in your Google My Activity page, you can hear yourself talking to Google Home or Google Assistant. Google Meet recordings upload to the organizer’s Google Drive.

You’ll need to repeat this process with every Google account you’ve connected to your Google Home. This setting applies to every device you can say “Hey Google” to, from your phone to a Nest Home Hub to a Lenovo smart display. If you’re an existing user working under the old defaults, the good news is you can tell Google to stop collecting your voice recordings. The even better news is it’s incredibly easy to do. After months of checking, I found Google is recording my conversations. But, Google is recording exactly the conversations it’s supposed to be recording.
How to Delete All Your Google Home Voice Recordings
The ability to filter inquiries is useful if you use Google often and want to make certain your Google Home isn’t accidentally recording conversations it shouldn’t. They call it the dark side of the moon but it’s really not always dark. After this statement came out in 2019, Google changed its policies – you now have to opt-in for Google to record private conversations in your home. With Google Home, your Nest and Works with Google Home devices work together reliably to help with your household needs. Just look for smart devices with a Works with Google Home badge.

Google Nest cameras and doorbells can detect important sound or motion, stream live video, and save the video to the cloud. This helps you keep tabs on activity happening in and around your home. If your camera is using its backup battery, it will honor its maximum video clip length setting. This means that if your camera is recording an event, it will cut off and save the clip even if the event is still happening. All Google Nest cameras and doorbells can upload and securely save video in the cloud, where it's protected from theft and damage. Once your camera's video is safely uploaded, you can access it anytime.
When to record meetings
If you only use Chrome in “Incognito Mode,” put tape over your laptop camera, and worry about snoops sniffing your packets, a web-connected microphone in your home seems risky. But recording your voice is a major part of how voice assistants work. Here’s how devices like Echo and Home record your voice, why they do it, what they do with the data, and how to scrub those recordings. All Nest cameras can detect sound and video events and notify you when something happens. If your camera has event video history or 24/7 video history, you’ll be able to review the footage of the activity in the app. For event video history, the time between recorded events (when there’s no activity) appears as gaps in the timeline.
Hitting the play button lets you hear the voice command which triggered the Google Assistant. So, it gives you the opportunity to check to see if your Google Home device is being activated when it shouldn’t. I do plan to put checking this on my monthly tech tasks list. It’s also helpful when your inquisitive toddler discovers Google loves answering questions. In addition to the audio files, Google may be keeping records of your past web searches, location history, YouTube views and more. Here’s a step-by-step guide to delete that data as well. Google's smart speakers respond to voice commands and store all that voice data on Google servers. For your own security, here's how to delete those recordings. If the recording starts at the scheduled meeting time, the recording links to the Google Calendar event.

If you don't remember whether you opted in or not, or if you opted in and regret it now, it's worth taking a moment to see what Google's recorded about you. Even though Google changed its stance on recording voice searches, the rest of your Google ecosystem activity might still be getting saved for posterity, no opt-in required. As someone who loves HomeKit, I can also recognize when other platforms have great products. Google’s first-party Nest cameras are fantastic, and I am glad I have them at my house. I am using the NestCam with Floodlight along with the new wired Nest doorbell, and I am quite happy with it for my outside cameras.
Before your stream of recordings, tap the option that says Auto-delete. If you don't want to keep manually deleting recordings picked up by the Assistant, you can also choose to have your activity removed automatically. Scroll through the history list to find a recording you want to delete.

You can't listen to your history of Siri interactions in Apple's app universe. However, Google also indicates that it may keep service-related information about your account, like which Google products you used and when, to prevent spam and abuse and to improve its services. Google now lets you remove individual recordings, delete between specific dates or set your account up to automatically delete after a certain amount of time. In fact, most of us would call that person out or at least stop our conversation until we were sure we could continue with some measure of privacy. Just ask any parent who stops an “adult conversation” when a child enters the room. From speech, music, applause, laughter, and more, search all your recordings to find the moments you remember. If you have Nest Aware Plus and you switch to Nest Aware, you’ll lose any event video history older than 30 days, and your last 10 days of 24/7 history will be converted to event video history. Regardless of which Nest camera you have and whether you have a subscription, you can access your camera’s live video stream anytime in the app. With an Event Video History subscription, your camera only saves clips to the cloud when it detects important sound or motion. With 24/7 Video History, your camera saves all footage to the cloud anytime it's connected to power and streaming video. If your camera or doorbell powers off completely , it can't record and save events to its internal memory.
You can also delete your voice recordings using your voice if you prefer -- no computer or phone required. Just tell your Google Home device something like "Hey, Google, delete my voice recordings from the past 30 days," or whatever time period you want to delete. You can even say, "Hey, Google, delete the last thing I said" if you don't want to delete a whole batch of recordings at once.
